Stem cells help regain sight for patients with macula degeneration

Two elderly patients in London have regained some eyesight after receiving retinal tissue that was grown from stem cells. The new retina was implanted under the existing retina. During the following 12 months the patients went from not being able to read at all to being able to read between 60 and 80 words a minute. While it is early days, the procedure appears to be safe and effective and could revolutionize how we treat the very deliberating condition of macula degeneration.
