Freedom from glasses or contact lenses without surgery

What is OrthoK?

Orthokeratology or OrthoK are specially designed hard contact lens that you wear while you sleep.  They are a bit like braces.  Overnight the lens gently reshapes the top surface of your eye so that when you wake up in the morning your vision is clear.  No need to put on glasses or wear contact lenses.  It is a totally reversible procedure.  If you stop wearing the lenses, your vision returns to it’s original state.  As well as reshaping the eye, OrthoK has also been shown to slow the progression of short-sightedness in children. How long does OrthoK last for?

OrthoK is completely reversible.  Most people need to wear the lens every night to maintain clear vision during the day.  In some cases the effects last longer and the lens is not required every night.  OrthoK lenses are only worn at night, never during the day.

Can anyone fit OrthoK?

OrthoK lens fitting is considered a specialty contact lens fit and not all Optometrists fit them.  It requires specialized equipment to determine the shape of your eye before the lens is ordered.  The fitting process is a lot more complex than soft contact lenses and requires multiple visits and follow up appointments.  Regular health checks are also required throughout the year to make sure the eye is healthy.   Most people notice a significant improvement in vision after one or two days but it can take a couple of weeks for the full effect to become apparent.
