Conventional Contact Lenses
These lenses are custom made to suit your exact eye shape and are usually replaced annually.
The lenses will be either:
- Spherical Lenses- for an eye that is regular in shape
- Toric Lenses-for an eye that has astigmaitism
The lenses can be made in different materials and will be either:
- Soft Lenses: These lenses are made of a combination of a soft plastic material and water.
- Hard lenses: These are rigid, gas permeable lenses that are also made of a special plastic material. The type of material used will also be advised depending on your prescription
Problems with distance and reading
While contact lenses are commonly used to correct distance vision problems they can also be used when a separate prescription is required for distance and reading. The two most common ways to correct both distance and near vision are:
- Monovision lenses: This involves prescribing a distance prescription for one eye and a reading for the other.
- Multifocal lenses: Multifocal contact lense provide simultaneous vision. The lenses focus at both distance and near allowing the user to see in the distance and read.
